2023-24 Rec Draft Rules
Coaches’ sons/daughters will be ranked by the other coaches at the beginning of the draft. If a consensus of draft round cannot be made by ALL coaches, then a blind ranking with every coach writing their ranking on a piece of paper will be conducted by ALL coaches. A GBA Board Member will conduct the blind ranking, review the rankings, and make a decision on the player’s draft round. The GBA Board Member’s decision is final.
Draft order will be determined by blind draw with each coach picking a number out of a hat at the beginning of the draft. Coaches
cannot
trade draft round with other coaches.
Practice times and places will be selected immediately after the draft order has been determined. Coaches will select practice time in the reverse order that the player draft was performed. Thus, if a coach had the last pick in the player draft, then they have the first pick for practices. Coaches that are dual coaches (coaching more than one team) will have priority and be able to select before this reverse draft of practices occurs (if they have not already done so).
For all divisions 8th grade and below - any players who did not attend the evaluations and do not have a prior season evaluation will be discussed by all coaches. If none of the coaches know the player, then the player will go into the hat for a blind draw. If at least one coach knows the player, the coaches can agree on a draft round for that player.
Once a draft round is selected, that player cannot be drafted until that round.
For all Divisions 6th grade and above – Players who do not have a prior season evaluation and who none of the coaches know will go into the hat for a blind draw. If at least one coach knows the player, the coaches can agree on a draft round for that player.
Once a draft round is selected, that player cannot be drafted until that round.
The draft will be a snake draft with the coach selecting last in each round to have the first pick of the new round. If there are 10 coaches, the coach with the 10th pick, also gets the 11th overall pick (the first pick in the second round).
Coaches may use their pick to draw a name out of the hat at any time.
There will be no selecting of assistant coaches prior to the draft. If you want an assistant coach, you must draft his/her child, no exceptions.
If a player is only willing to play for a certain coach, that player will be ineligible for the draft and they will be refunded their GBA registration fee in accordance with the league refund policy.
Trades are allowed immediately following the draft
while all coaches are still present
. All trades must be discussed as a group prior to the completion of the draft. All trades will be discussed by the coaches and, if they agree, the trade will be approved by notifying the presiding GBA Board Member/moderator. If the coaches can’t agree on a trade the GBA Board Member will make the final decision. No trades between coaches will be allowed after the draft.
