Travel Basketball
The 2015-16 Travel Coaches online application will be open soon (early/mid August) and will close in early September.  Applications will be reviewed and all coaching announcements will be made in September. All interested candidates must fill out the application before the deadline.


  • Players interested in trying out should register for travel during the annual registration period.  This starts Sept 1.
  • Try-outs will take place in early October, team selections will follow shortly thereafter.
  • All players must register via the on-line registration process and can pay via credit card.
  • If players are not selected to play on a travel team, they will be automatically placed in the recreational league.
  • Once selected to a team each player is required to provide a copy of the child's report card to confirm players grade. Proof of residency (i.e. water bill, etc.) is also required to proof where a child lives. 
  • Registration fee will be announced soon for the 2015-16 season 

Total Cost for Travel Basketball in 2014 was $310 all in (including uniforms.)  

For the 2015-2016 season, GBA "Travel" expects to field two teams in the following divisions:
  • Boys 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade divisions
  • Girls 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade divisions
  • Grade in school based teams (See Travel FAQ's)
  • Exceptions- Boys 5th will again pilot a 3rd team made up of 5th and 4th graders.
 Skills Assessment 
Coaches will select players based on their skill level. Which can range from defensive skills, ball handling, offensive skills and basketball knowledge. Dates and locations will be posted.
Practice/Game Schedule

Prior to the season practices will be twice a week, 

  • Practices begin in October, games in November  [Note: that Travel teams require more practice time (generally twice a week for 60-90 minutes].  The season ends in early March
  • All Games will be played within the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (FCYBL) often weeknight and weekend games, and held in gyms across Fairfax County as well as in Alexandria, Arlington, Falls Church, Prince William and Loudoun counties [However, "Travel" basketball  teams, unlike soccer travel teams, do not play outside Northern Virginia].
