Coming Soon- Gainesville Basketball Spring Pre-Travel Academy 2019
Please read this important message if you have an advanced basketball player in 3rd or 4th grade.
Gainesville Travel is the premier youth travel basketball program for the best players (5th – 8th grade) in Prince William County and the travel component of GBA. We are an exclusive member organization of the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (www.fcybl.org), more commonly known as "Travel". The Gainesville Travel Organization has decided to again offer training to a select group of 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls to give these young athletes a head start in preparation for competitive travel basketball. These young athletes will need to tryout and make the Pre-Travel Academy training team in order to participate. The athletes that make the team will also participate in a tournament representing the Gainesville/Haymarket/Manassas community by competing against other Northern Virginia travel and AAU organizations this summer (such as CYA, SYA, Arlington, Reston, Ft. Belvoir, Fort Hunt, Herndon, etc.).
The Gainesville Pre-Travel Academy will provide players an opportunity to learn basic basketball concepts, fundamentals, and skills while also developing a passion and love for the game. We believe, with a solid foundation established from the 4th grade on, it’s more likely for players to reach their potential at the High School Level. So, starting one year early gives these athletes a head start.
Travel Academy is not a camp. Athletes try out and are selected to participate in this training program. Being selected does not guarantee your son or daughter a spot on a travel team the following year, but it does prepare him or her for tryouts. <span style="font-family:; font-size: 14pt;" times="" new="" roman""="" "times="">
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How many players will be selected?
A: Initially we will not have teams, but we will select groups of kids to train/workout. The exact number will be based on number of pre-travel ready athletes that tryout, but we will try and limit the numbers to 10-12 3rd Grade Girls, 10-12 3rd Grade Boys, 10-12 4th Grade Girls, 10-12 4th Grade Boys. The current 4th grade boys and girls that are already playing travel do not qualify to tryout.
Q: When is the training?
A: Athletes will train once a week on Sunday early evenings at Patriot High or Battlefield High. We’ll go from early March until school lets out (early/mid June.)
Q: Will there be any games?
A: Yes, one tournament will be scheduled for each of the girls and boys 3rd and 4th grade divisions.
Q: What is the cost?
A: $135 all in. As always, all our programs run at cost. Be careful of “AAU Trainers” trying to take your money.
Q: Can my child play other sports?
A: For sure. It is way too early to specialize in one sport. This program is set up to learn more basketball while still playing spring sports.
Q: When are the tryouts?
A: Late Feb or Early March, on a Sunday. Stay tuned, we will update here soon.
Thank you,
