We hope to see you at Gainesville Travel tryouts (Oct 2nd). It's going to be another great season!!!

There are many aspects to running a SUCCESSFUL travel and recreational basketball program. The number one asset our league has is the quality and experience of our VOLUNTEER COACHES and VOLUNTEER BOARD MEMBERS who assist our programs in player training, budgeting, uniforms, gym space, insurance, scheduling, games, referees, age and grade verification, website, and email notification for games and practices.

GBA REC and GAINESVILLE TRAVEL promote the importance of improving each player's skill and knowledge of the game, being competitive and ultimately, teaching life lessons outside of basketball. Most importantly, we want our players and coaches to be positive contributors to our community and schools, and hope that our players apply their hard work ethics on the court in the classroom as well.

Recently, GBA has formed a renewed partnership with our local high schools (Patriot and Battlefield). These high schools have given us the opportunity to use their courts for practices. We are also working with PATRIOT and BATTLEFIELD coaches to conduct coaching clinics, as well as opportunities for coaches and players to sit in on some high school practices. As you may know, there have been new basketball leagues and organizations popping up all over the area. As a result, GBA would like to use this email to help answer any questions you may have about our league versus a for-profit league. Below are some features and benefits of our travel and rec leagues. If you don't see an answer to your question below, please visit our FAQ's page at gainesvillebasketball.org  or contact one of our board members via email through the GBA home page.

Gainesville Basketball Rec League:

All practices and games are held ONLY at PWC schools where the gyms are properly heated and cooled and well maintained with at least 6 hoops per court which allows for less down time during practices. We have eliminated our use of a private facility.

GBA "Recreational" teams have rules for minimum playing time. Outlined in the GBA League Rules is a specific player participation policy.  In short, the policy states that each child is guaranteed a minimum of the two (2) quarters of playing time.

All GBA Rec teams will participate in an end of the season tournament where trophies are awarded to the champions and runners-up in their divisions.

In addition, there will be opportunities for registered players to participate in free conditioning sessions.

Gainesville Travel:

The Travel registration fee (plus uniform cost if needed) covers all practices (October - March) and games in the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League which has been in existence for 35 years. THERE ARE NO OTHER HIDDEN FEES OR ADDITIONAL COSTS.  Gainesville Travel is one of the largest & most successful organizations in the area. We compete against other communities like Arlington, Reston, Chantilly, Alexandria, etc.  Teams are tiered into three divisions to ensure fair and even competition.  We play in High School gyms with High School refs.  This league is EXTREMELY well organized with reliable schedules, good competition, facilities and volunteers. Gainesville Travel is 100% volunteer-driven and 100% non-profit. We have transitioned to practicing in our PWC high schools and middle schools for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

There will also be opportunities for registered players to participate in free conditioning sessions.

****Gainesville Travel, the Travel Organization of GBA, is recognized as the premiere Travel club in Prince William County, and one of the top Travel clubs in the State of Virginia... We have had four teams in recent years finish Top 8 in USA National AAU Championship Tournaments.

****The goal of Gainesville Travel continues to be the samepreparing athletes to make their Middle and High School teams.  94% of ALL boys and girls varsity basketball athletes at Battlefield High & Patriot High have come through our program.  Many at Stonewall High & Brentsville High have as well.

We look forwarding to seeing you on the courts this season as a part of our Gainesville Basketball Association family!

Thank you,

Paul Naples
